Here is my music magazine cover so far. I have added the barcode on to the magazine cover and I have also added some of the artists above the masthead. I have also extended the rectangle that I have used where the masthead is. This is to make the masthead stand out.

Research and Planning: Difference between Serif and Sans-Serif font

The difference between  the serif font and the sans-serif font is that it is easier to read serif font. This is because of the added flicks on the end of the letters, there are some examples on the left. Where it is red on the letters on the last line of the letters is what the serif font actually is. Serif font is usually used for writing in books/magazines that have a font size lower than 12.

When I come to produce my story for my double page spread my font is going to be a font size of 12 at maximum. This is so I can fit all of my story in the space that is available. However when I produce the over sections on my magazine I can use sans-serif font because the font size that I would use for my cover lines on my cover will be over 12. This is so I can have a variety of Sans-serif font and Serif fonts.

Research and Planning: Comparison with my genre to another genre (Double page spread)

Both of the images below are examples of different styles of double page spreads. The first one is a Rap genre because it haas Jay-Z  and the double page spread below has artists such as Leona Lewis and Lady Gaga. This artists are associated with Pop genre. There are differences between the two double page spreads. These are that there is one image on the rap genre magazine and the image covers one page, whereas on the pop genre there a plenty of images but there is the one huge image to show what the text is mainly about. In the rap genre the text used is slang which is expected in this genre of music however there is sophisticated language used throughout. This is because the magazine is aimed at young adults who would understand the language.

Research and Planning: Possible double page spread story ideas

There are many different ideas that I could create when producing my double page spread stories.

What I could create?

• An interview/story of the artist/group to get a background story of them.
• Top 10 listings of all the latest music that is suited to my genre of music.
• New album releases from the main artist on the front cover.
• Festivals/Gigs/Events that AUTHORITY will be going to or what the magazine recommends. I could also include where the artist on the front is going to be at there gigs.

Research and Planning: DLSR Test Shots

Here are my DLSR Test shots. From my DLSR test shots I have found that having the flash on whilst inside makes the background yellow and also it shows more blemishes on the face so I would have to photoshop them out. However without flash there is more of a natural light within the background and there is less blemishes on the face. With the flash inside it leaves a glare on the persons glasses and the phone that I have used as a small object. If I was to use flash inside I would have to photoshop out the glares on any objects that contain glass.

When I took my test shots outside, having the flash on made the image look blurry when I took a picture up close for example the flower picture looks better without flash. This is because of the natural lighting. When I come to produce my magazine and I have a close up as one of my images I am going to not use flash if I am outside therefore there is more natural light on the persons face which will make it look more natural.

From these test shots I have a good understanding of what shots I would include on my magazine. I have also discovered if I should use flash when I am inside and outside.

Research and Planning: Plans for the Week 10/11/14 - 17/11/14

My plans for this weeks:

• Start producing my magazine
• Produce one location recce and risk assessment
• Begin producing my magazine
• Start writing double page spread story
• Take a series of test shots using a DSLR camera and evaluate
• Upload publication plan

Research and Planning: The looks that the models have and the Costumes/Outfits

From the images that I have looked at previously in the artists blog I have looked at what the model needs to look like. The looks that the model needs to have is a serious facial expression. This is to show that the artist of the music genre is passionate about what they produce. Also the lyrics in there music are also seen to be very serious because of how they talk about there bad upbringings etc. Next is the costumes/outfits that the artists are wearing. Most of the artists are wearing jumpers, a white t-shirt with a leather jacket or a suit. This is to make the artists look rich and powerful because they are wearing designer clothes that are expensive. When I come to dress my model the model needs to look rich as they will be representing Rap/R&B. This will also show that they have relevance to the magazine as I don't want people to get the wrong idea of what the music magazine is aimed for.

Research and Planning: Artists that are associated with R&B/Rap

When I produced my audience questionnaires I asked them what artist would be associated with my genre of choice. The people who I asked said that they know who Eminem, Dr. Dre, Bruno Mars and Wiz Khalifa are. These questions where asked so i could get help on what artists to put on the front cover of my magazine. I have got images of what the artists look like. With looking at what the artists are wearing, there emotions on there faces and the type of shot used on the pictures this will hall me when I come to produce my music magazine later on. I would possibly use these artists for the cover lines on my magazine cover.

Research and Planning: Publication plan
